YouTube TV vs. DirecTV: Which is Ultimate Cable Service?

Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Pinterest Email Reddit

For today’s topic, the debate is going to be about the ultimate cable service: Is it YouTube TV or DirecTV. To know let’s get right into this article. Nowadays, most of DirecTV’s customers are completely fed up with AT&T. If you compare YouTube TV with DirecTV then it is pretty clear what we needed to do.

Users are paying a lot of money to watch specific channels but lately, they are not able to watch their favorite TV shows due to blackouts on DirecTV. These blackouts are causing the users to lose their trust in the providers and users are leaving the company. Now you must be wondering what are these DirecTV blackouts well let me explain it to you.

DirecTV Blackouts

When AT&T acquired DirecTV, everything on the platform started going downhill. Currently, the users of DirecTV are facing blackouts of the local networks like CBS, NBC, and The CW. The users are getting fed up due to this and are wanting to leave this service. But the people at DirecTV have become slick about it, much like the cell phone providers, in which they charge the users with a termination fee for leaving the company.

Previously they used to charge $10 per month for early termination from the users. For example, if your contract with DirecTV expires in September then you would have 3 months of services left due to which your ETF would be $30.

But DirecTV after that has raised their termination fee which is double the previous fee ($20 per month). Due to this, the users who want to walk away from these cable services are having a hard time walking away from the provider. They are literally scamming the people of their money for leaving the provider for some other cable service.

I have not read or seen any cable service like this who charges the users for leaving the services. So even if the users are leaving the cable company, DirecTV is still making money with the help of the termination fee paid by the users.

On the other hand, there are a lot of cable services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. But for this article, we are going to talk about YouTube TV. Most users nowadays prefer YouTube TV over DirecTV.

YouTube TV

YouTube TV offers its users with top internet television as well as offers live TV, on-demand video, and cloud-based DVR from more than 70. YouTube TV is owned by YouTube and is a subsidiary of Google. YouTube TV has all the major networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Fox, FX, AMC, CNN, Fox News, TBS, ESPN, and Discovery.

YouTube TV costs the users $49.99 per month but each subscription can be shared among six accounts and allows up to three simultaneous streams.

Some of the supported YouTube devices are:

  • Android TV
  • Samsung Smart TV
  • Sony Smart TV
  • LG Smart TV
  • Chromecast
  • Xbox One
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Apple TV
  • PlayStation 4
  • Android mobile devices
  • Apple IOS mobile devices
  • macOS
  • Windows

These are some of the devices which are supported by YouTube TV. So, you can easily watch your favorite shows and movies on YouTube TV with your friends and family on any of these devices.

YouTube TV vs. DirecTV: Key Differences

Some of the key difference which makes YouTube TV and DirecTV different and unique from each other. The key differences are as follows:

YouTube TV DirecTV
On YouTube TV, you can easily hide channels from your home screen as well as choose a different channel as your default start channel. If you open DirecTV then you’ll have a channel showing right on the screen and you can’t even choose a different channel as your default start channel. Also, you can’t even hide certain channels from your home screen.
To stream on YouTube TV, you don’t need to connect to Wi-Fi. You can easily watch the shows from your list anywhere without downloading or your downloads. To stream on DirecTV, you need to connect DirecTV with your home Wi-Fi, log in to your DirecTV account, and then download the saved shows off of our DVR to watch while away from home.
Just like the Hulu and Netflix, on YouTube TV you can set up different family members up to six on your YouTube TV account. That means that every member can log in to the account using your email address and have their own profiles on the account. On DirecTV, there is only one account through which every member of the family has to watch and only one person can have their account on it.
On YouTube TV, you have unlimited access to DVR where you can download as many recordings of your favorite shows as you want. On DirecTV, you can only download around five recordings on the DVR of your favorite shows.

So, these were the key differences between YouTube TV and DirecTV. After studying all the differences, one can say that YouTube TV offers more benefits to the users than the DirecTV.

Streaming is not for everyone

You want to stream for favorite TV shows or movies all day then you need to have unlimited access to the internet. You need cabled broadband if you stream videos but if you have limited access to the internet then streaming can be difficult for you to watch your favorite shows.

If you have unlimited access to the internet then you can stream shows as much as you want. However, with limited access to the internet then you can download your favorite shows on the DVR so that not much internet is needed for you to watch your favorite shows.

Final Verdict

After all the points from both the cable services are studied, I can say that I would definitely choose YouTube TV over DirecTV. With DirecTV, users are facing a lot of problems with their local networks but with YouTube TV, users are easily able to watch shows from all the local networks without experiencing any problem.

So that was it for today’s article. I think YouTube TV is the ultimate cable service if compared with DirecTV. Hope it was helpful for you. Thank you for reading!!!
